Job Details:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience is preferred
  • Under general supervision follows established professional standards and procedures, helps facilitate patient flow and performs a variety of screening and technical diagnostic tests including manual lensometry and manual keratometry. Assists with patient contact lens removal/ insertion and instilling eye drops as directed by physician. Knowledge of eye terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Very good interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with patients and understand their needs, and be responsive to elderly and sensory handicapped. Also requires the ability to work closely and effectively with physicians and other clinic staff. Very good communication skills required effectively explaining the exam process to patients and attempting to allay their concerns and apprehensions. High school diploma. Completion of ophthalmic, optometric, or medical assistant training program and/or AAO Home Study Course. Two years in an ophthalmic practice and/or certified through JCAHPO (Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) at the assistant level. One year as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
