Ophthalmic Technician II

Under general supervision of the Chief Ophthalmic technician and following established professional standards and procedures, helps facilitate patient flow and performs a variety of screening and technical diagnostic tests including manual lensometry and manual keratometry. Assist patient with contact lens removal and insertion and instilling eye drops as directed by physician.

Requirements;

• High school diploma and completion of ophthalmic, optometric, or medical assistant training program and/or AAO Home Study Course.
• Two years experience working in an ophthalmic practice and/or certified through JCAHPO (Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology ) at the assistant level.
• One year experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
• Knowledge of eye terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with patients and understand their needs, and be responsive to the elderly and sensory handicapped.
• Ability to work closely and effectively with physicians and other clinic staff.
• Excellent communication skills required to effectively explain the exam process to patients and attempt to allay their concerns and apprehensions.
• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of patients of different age populations in order to provide care appropriately.
