Job Details:

  • With minimal or no supervision, this position performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests. Analyzes, records, and reports test results, conducts quality control when appropriate, and maintains equipment in working order.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Processes specimens for testing. Performs testing on a variety of specimens with frequent computer interaction.

    Records and reports results according to standard procedures. Reviews results for accuracy. Perform clerical support functions.

    Recognize abnormal results and problem with samples that may cause abnormal results.

    Perform Quality Control testing on analyzers and test systems to ensure reliability and accuracy in reporting patient results. Documents out of range QC and take appropriate corrective action, in accordance with procedures.

    Performs all functions that are required for the laboratory to meet the standards specified by accrediting agencies such as JCAHO and CAP with respect to: written technical and administrative procedures and policies covering test methodologies, operation and maintenance of instruments and equipment, quality control of testing and reporting, specimen collection and handling, plant maintenance, personnel policies, safety, and quality assurance.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Must have the ability to operate sophisticated and technical equipment and perform tests requiring analytical and interpretive skills with a high degree of accuracy.

    Level of knowledge obtained through a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with certification in one of the various Clinical Laboratory disciplines and one year of satisfactory work experience in an accredited clinical laboratory is also acceptable.

    ASCP or NCA certification required.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
