Duties involve the operation of radiological and electrocardiographic equipment and processing of results. Technical work review is performed by consulting radiologists and members of the medical staff.
Performs diagnostic radiographic examinations as ordered by staff and consulting physicians.
Obtains accurate medical histories and observes patients for any apparent abnormalities that may affect radiographic or diagnostic results.
Adjusts procedures as necessary.
Employs radiation protection procedures for both patient and staff.
Prepares chemicals and processes and marks films for identification.
Cleans and adjusts equipment and performs minor repairs when needed.
Performs electrocardiograms, monitors results and prepares them for interpretation by physicians.
Maintains x-ray and EKG records and prepares periodic activity reports.
Provides back up for the medical clinic and pharmacy. May provide emergency medical intervention.
Assists in provision of laboratory services. Orders supplies when needed. Communicates with various health agencies, physicians, insurance companies and hospitals regarding patient treatment.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of radiographic technology.
Knowledge of job related occupational hazards and proper safety precautions.
Knowledge of proper methods and techniques used in preparing patients for x-ray photographs.
Skill in taking unusual and difficult x-ray photographs of any part of the body.
Ability to learn procedures for taking electrocardiographs and processing the results.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
High School and graduate of Radiology program
One year experience required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
Current certificate of registry as a Radiology Technologist approved by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists and possession of, or eligibility for, Massachusetts licensure as a Radiology Technologist - Radiography.
