Job Details:

The ADA Accessibility Specialist is responsible for establishing and managing the
compliance environment related to federal, state and local laws and building codes set in
place to ensure that people with disabilities have equal access to all buildings and
services. Included in the role is Occupancy Planning, which is responsible for a broad
range of functions in support of the organizations business objectives, including
administrative and operational functions of Real Estate & Facilities. Providing tactical
expertise to manage the day-to-day operations in support of supply, capacity and demand
of Tufts Medical Centers portfolio of space.


ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Reports to the Director, Planning Design and Construction with coordination with
  • Compliance and Risk Management

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop strategic plan for monitoring campus compliance with federal, state and local
  • regulations and implement plans for improvement in collaboration with other
  • administrators and staff.
  • Monitor and coordinate compliance activities, including identifying trends, potential
  • areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and develop relevant policies and
  • procedures.
  • Advising on compliance with technical requirements under federal, state and local
  • regulations and guidelines regarding building and facility accessibility.
  • Develop and maintain a communications plan for providing important information on
  • ADA compliance.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to campus departments in implementing
  • accommodations and developing best practices with an emphasis on universal design.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to campus departments in responding to information
  • requests from governmental agencies, or other entities, regarding access to physical
  • space and/or services.
  • Proficient in highly specialized regulations, codes, standards and other relevant criteria:
    • Accessibility regulations, including the Americans with Disability Act, MA Access Board and other state and local regulations;
    • Accessibility codes, including the International Building Code and other state and local codes;
    • Accessibility standards and guidelines, including the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design; ANSI A117; and, the FGI 2014 Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities.
  • Investigate, analyze, and respond to technical inquiries concerning accessibility issues.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
  • Responsible for all facility space and personnel move requests to maximize space
  • efficiencies, while implementing solutions in-line with Real Estate & Facilities goals.
  • Lead the creation of occupancy plans and their alignment with business and corporate
  • strategy.
  • Support building projects from a space and headcount perspective.
  • Update and maintain floor plans; update space and occupancy inventories.
  • Develop and maintain site stacking plans.
  • Conduct space and occupancy audits to maintain accurate reporting information of
  • seating charts, names plates and usage of space.
  • Review and validate monthly space and occupancy reporting.
  • Develop migration plans and sequencing of group-level relocations.
  • Organize all data into approved Forms for planning and hand off purposes, including:
  • planning charts, proposed spreadsheet data and written descriptions of solutions.
  • Educate users on space and occupancy policies & procedures.
  • Ensure occupancy planning activities are aligned with Real Estate & Facilities
  • guidelines and consistently propose scenarios that maximize use of space.

  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction that effectively supports day to day business operations by improving relationships and delivering solutions.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to build strong relationships with internal and external partners to deliver effective services
  • Strong attention to detail and quality. Ability to handle concurrent projects with minimal supervision and direction.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 2-4 years of ADA-related work experience, preferably in a field related to planning & design, capital project management, real estate or facilities.
  • Experience working with governmental agencies and/or advocacy organizations.
  • Bachelors degree required in architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, construction management, or related field.
  • Skilled in the creation of presentations, new reporting mechanisms and other documents.
  • Prior experience in local and regional delivery of strategic planning, occupancy planning, and move-add-change services in healthcare / hospital, lab, or commercial real estate preferred.
  • Experience with MA Access Board, Building Department, DPH considered a plus
